Awaken!

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Awaken children and let us see,
The Shining Light that is meant to be;
Shone forth in freedom and in love,
Sent from the Dear Ones from above.
To rid us all of the Dark Foes’ night,
Whose shadows hide the ephemeral Light.
Which keeps us safe and free from harm
and wraps around us peaceful calm.
So with this knowledge held within,
We easily move through the worldly din.
To find what it is we’re looking for:
The gateway to the Heavenly door.

The sacred value of motherhood

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

image of pregnant womanMotherhood is one the most sacred roles women can play in life. Its sacredness exists in its potential to teach us unconditional love.

From the moment of conception, a mother’s thoughts can turn from her own personal interests to the best interests of her child.

Or not.

What she eats and drinks, as well as her lifestyle choices, will ultimately define just how sacred this role is for her.

With her thoughts and aspirations for her future now imbued with considerations for another human being, a woman is challenged to act with greater love. Through this greater love, fulfilment, expansion and contentment can be experienced and understood. Continue reading

For Ashleigh

There was a little curly girl
Her name was Isabella,
Her sister Lily liked to twirl
In circles with umbrellas.
All day long the sisters two,
would dance and sing and hoola hoo.
And in the evening when they waned,
They gently rested heads again.
Until the hours ticked & tocked,
and moved around the steadfast clock.
To bring the morning back again,
Where all their play things wait; and feign
That in the hours quiet at night,
They rest like all the children tight.
Yet truth be told they play with glee,
Whilst people sleep indulgently.

So once again the day begins
With Isabella’s charm
Whilst Lily lays and waits in bed
And calls her mum! Alarm.
It rings out loud till mum responds,
And all around assume a bond.
Of children’s power to touch the heart,
And hand the day a pleasant start.
When truly tired a mother’s arms,
Are lightened by her babies’ charms.
To keep on with a joyful cheer,
Which carries through another year.
They pass & pass & pass on by,
Till soon an adult’s standing nigh.
And in that place the child once sat,
Is now a lovely little cat!

Daddy lovely legs

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Image of long legs cast by a shadowI was most definitely a daddy’s girl growing up.

I recall many moments of grace with him. My most immediate memory was at the end of the day when he would return home from work and I would greet him at the door by throwing my small arms around his wonderful legs.

Both my parents were ballroom dancers.

They danced simply for pleasure. Both were truly a graceful site to behold as joy and light filled their union of elegant movement.

Needless to say, both had beautiful bodies. But it was Dad’s legs which evoked a feeling in me, which still remains.

I can’t put in to words what that feeling is, other than to call it grace. Continue reading

Moments of grace in life’s little moments

By Karen Scott 2 Comments

Image of a blue eyeOne of my earliest recollections of the gift of grace in my life was an interaction I shared with Sister Catherine, my 1st grade teacher. I loved Sister Catherine in an all-encompassing way.

One day, we were discussing names and she said to me that my given name, Karen, was the Danish derivative of her chosen name, Catherine. She told me that our names mean ‘purity’.

I was only 6 years old, but the feeling of expansion and the sense of space I experienced in that moment remains with me today.

She joined with me in likeness, through our mutual purity — hers chosen, mine given — and gave to me the gift of grace.

It’s not something that can be planned.

It can be desired, but even the desire for a moment of grace seems to make it elusive. Continue reading
