Preparing for a Soulful Christmas

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Image of NativityWith Christmas rapidly approaching, it’s a good idea to take some time to think about what Christmas means for us.

For many, Christmas is a time of reflection, sharing and love.

It’s the time of year when we go to extra lengths to show those we love just how much they mean to us.

So spending some time connecting with and being moved by our soul, as well as reflecting on the spiritual aspects of Christmas, is a wonderful place to begin.

But what does it actually mean to connect with our soul and the spiritual aspects of Christmas? Continue reading

Prayer for a peaceful Christmas

Loving Father,

Please be with me this Christmas.
Bring into my mind
Your blessings and Your Grace.
Through Your Light,
my mind is transformed.
The world is transformed.
Be with me during this
Christmas season.
Keep my mind focused
on the things of Spirit and
please, use me as Your instrument
to spread Your Light and Love
to this small part of the world.
To acquaintances, to friends
and, most especially, to my family
with whom I hold a sacred contract,
I give Your love.
Let me be the one who brings
Your peace, Your gentleness,
Your kindness.
Let each one I encounter
know that I’m with You and
You’re with me.
Please give us an experience
of Your Grace and Peace,
so that we may feel You
present this Christmas and always.

Thank You
Amen.

For unto us a child is born

By Karen Scott 2 Comments

Long ago a child was born
His mother chaste and pure
He held a love the world had lost
His heart would bring its cure

The prophets had foreseen this One
The Light of love reborn
And all who kept the vigil knew
A promise was forsworn

This One would be a Kingly man
No jewels or gold need He
But Love and Peace and Gentleness
His throne would oversee

Into our world the Prince of Peace
Made entrance from the sphere
Where Angels’ voices still create
The Gloria atmosphere

So ‘Christ on High Messiah reigns’
The Angels all do sing
And Mary Queen of Heaven hails
Hosanna to our King

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Image of Christmas windowFor some people, Christmas can be a time of the year that they’d rather not have to think about.

They may even want to avoid it.

The commercialism, and inappropriate values associated with it, can lead people to feel that the only meaning to be found in Christmas is the power of the mighty dollar.

Yet at the heart of Christmas is the gift of sharing and love that we offer one another. Continue reading

Vegan or not, true compassion extends to animals and people alike

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Image of Radha and KrishnaOne of the many accusations frequently levelled at vegans is how intolerant they are towards people who choose to eat meat and people who behave cruelly towards animals.

I’ve personally encountered interactions just like this.

For example, I follow articles and social media about animal equality, which support the elimination of animal farming practices and other forms of cruelty towards animals.

And what I’ve repeatedly noticed are vegans imposing guilt on others who comment on the upsetting content of the posts, but who haven’t yet arrived at a decision to stop eating meat.

Instead of influencing these people towards veganism, they end up alienating and embarrassing them.

I feel this is one of the reasons, vegans are often viewed as extremist, unrealistic and, at times, a little flaky.

They’re seldom seen as compassionate because their compassion can appear to be quite biased towards animals.

So why would it be helpful for vegans to change their approach and attitude towards people doing harm to animals?

Because then our love becomes grace-filled and truly unconditional. Continue reading

Prayer for Easter

Image of a heart

Dear God,

Please be with me this Easter,
as I reflect on the Passion
and the Resurrection.
As I bring into my mind all those
that I love this Easter,
May I see all the places where I
resist that love.
Where I have judged or blamed another,
help me to see their innocence
and their full reflection of You.
I open my mind to receive You, dear God.
Let me hear the softness
of Your Voice within me,
so that a new understanding
of forgiveness fills my mind and heart.
May this and every Easter be
filled with true forgiveness;
And may Your Blessings and Your Love
Unify us all.

Thank You,
Amen.

The Easter gift

Easter — Eostre,
New Beginnings
Bunnies, eggs
New life abounds;
From a distant
Time and country
Symbols formed
And shaped around

Pagan stories
Filled with myth
Power placed in
Nature’s kind;
But One had
A different message
All within
One Blessed Mind

How to teach us
Such a learning
Held in deepest
Love for all;
Only such a One
Could teach
And lift us up
From such a fall

Remembered for His sacrifice
As if He Thought His body real
But He knew through His forgiveness
Each and every mind would Heal

Master, Teacher
Dearest Son
Brother of all men
Is He
Christ within;
Each child of God
This message True
He brought to me

Easter stories
Bring a blessing
To forgive
Our heavy heart
By extending
Love to others
Forgiveness, the
True Healing Art

Sleep-over sunrise

By Karen Scott 4 Comments

Image of a sunrise

Pink and yellow
Marshmallow clouds
Suspended in
An azure sky

Sun appears
Pink turns to grey
Golden slivers
Rising high

Time elapses
Clouds transform
Fill the sky
Grey, blue and white

Gentle breeze
Caress the treetops
World awakens
Splendid sight

Watched together
Morning glory
Words of wisdom
To impart

From the teachings
Of the Father
Touched her precious
Mind and heart

Morning Light
New day beginning
Little hands
The window touch

Hugs and kisses
Stories, laughter
Children’s hearts
Which love so much

People just want to be loved, don’t they?

By Karen Scott 6 Comments

Image of a hand‘I just want to be loved.’

Have you ever heard someone say these words, or have you ever said them yourself?

Well I’ve definitely heard them before.

And it makes me wonder what these words really mean.

Is that what people really want? To be loved?

Most people would answer with a resounding ‘YES!’

‘Yes, I want to be loved. Of course I do.’

But could it be that, rather than wanting to be loved, it’s the experience of feeling love that people are actually searching for?

If it is, then our attention needs to shift from looking outside ourselves for love, to the more immediate experience of love which can be found within.

Yet because so few people know how to connect with love in a fulfilling way, they look to others for love instead.

They turn their attention outside in, and stop viewing life from the inside out. Continue reading

I Am

I am …
I am …

I say to myself

I am …

I am love
I say
I am kindness
I am peace
I am lightness

And then
From its healing
Each word
Becomes feeling

As peace
Starts to grow
My heart
Starts to know

I Am … Love

I Am … Kindness

I Am … Peace

I Am … Lightness

I Am

I Am

I Am
