Recognising the symbols, themes and influences in life

By Karen Scott 2 Comments

Image of a snakeI was born in the year of the Snake.

When I made this discovery, I felt an immediate rapport with these much-feared, slithering creatures.

I don’t have a fear of snakes.

I’ve never had reason to.

Unlike those who do fear them, I find myself excited when they make an appearance in my life.

I see them as sacred messengers of Spirit, who cross my path to impart some wisdom.

And just as nature holds messages for me, so do many other facets of my life.

My astrological signs, animal totems, past lives, angels and every other influence of that nature, have each had their own significance and impact.

Whether subtle or profound, each of these elements are all a part of the jigsaw puzzle which is my life. Continue reading

Seagull

Across the sea
My wings expand
On thermals I do sore

Unlimited
I trust the drive
Compelling to explore

Deep within
The settings fixed
Already steer the course

To destinations far beyond
And journeys to
The Source

Anointing of the bells

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Image of rays on water

Image: fdecomite

Teardrops falling from my eyes
Touch my precious face
Even in the morningtide
Hopes all feel erased

Grip my heart with fear and dread
Grief will have its way
Tears, more tears and then some more
Seize another day

Evening comes and I’m alone
My heart still full of pain
I lay awake and cry some more
Filled with deepest shame

Alone I am not strong enough
To hold on to the Light
Within the depths of my despair
Where tests of faith ignite

The passion deep within us
To wrestle to the ground
The fear of not returning to
Where joy and smiles are found

I reach up to the heavens
I plead and I implore
The Deities who serve the One
Who never would ignore

I wait in hope and then again
My doubt begins play
On weaknesses still held within
On yet another day

But then … in moments brief and few
A chime it starts to ring
Like bells which sound the Angelus
For Mother of the King

I catch it just before it fades
And feel it shape and mould
The deepest wounded part of me
Which I no longer scold

The Light it grows now day by day
And glitters like the sun
To shine and brightly send its rays
To each and everyone

Who may be held in chains so tight
Which never will release
Their fragile spirit from the bonds
Of darkness, pain and grief

So watch the spark when first it comes
To bid you warm ‘Hello’
And hold it gently in your mind
So you can watch it grow

Till it exceeds all desperate fears
And hopes which have been lost
And raises up within its Light
The blessed Holy Ghost

Consult your heart before choosing a psychic

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Image of a white roseIt’s easy for people to make the assumption that psychic awareness and spirituality are the same thing.

On many occasions I’ve heard people discuss readings they have sought and received, automatically presuming them to be spiritual in nature.

But there is a world of difference between psychic awareness — the ability to perceive impressions — and the universal truths pursued in committed spiritual practices.

And whilst the two aren’t mutually exclusive, they don’t necessarily go hand in hand.

The use of readings to obtain information regarding our path can be enlightening, emotionally relieving — even healing.

But to confuse this with the important motivation of the pursuit of truth, wisdom and love within a spiritual practice, would be misguided.

Although it is a natural graduation from spiritual dedication and practice to psychic awakening, without a strong spiritual foundation, psychic abilities can be misused.

A pure intent and an elevated quality of thoughts and energy are desirable when consulting a psychic medium for a reading. These qualities lend a level of purity to the experience and ensure the appropriateness of the information which is brought through by the medium. Continue reading

The sacred value of motherhood

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

image of pregnant womanMotherhood is one the most sacred roles women can play in life. Its sacredness exists in its potential to teach us unconditional love.

From the moment of conception, a mother’s thoughts can turn from her own personal interests to the best interests of her child.

Or not.

What she eats and drinks, as well as her lifestyle choices, will ultimately define just how sacred this role is for her.

With her thoughts and aspirations for her future now imbued with considerations for another human being, a woman is challenged to act with greater love. Through this greater love, fulfilment, expansion and contentment can be experienced and understood. Continue reading

Karma: its influence on your life and spiritual path

By Karen Scott 2 Comments

Image of a mazeWe’re always moving along our spiritual path.

Whether we’re actively seeking it or trying to avoid it, we can’t escape being on the road to enlightenment.

Karma sees to that.

Sometimes, it feels that we’ve detoured, or that we’ve become lost in life’s maze. We can feel that life has taken over and is moving us along. Yet even then, we remain firmly set on our spiritual journey through life.

Though we may not feel connected to spirit, we can be sure that karma is at work and is providing us with the lessons necessary for our growth. Continue reading

Little bird

Image of feathers and cage

Image: ajari

Let the bars bend
Let them crumble and fall away
And on new wings unfolded

Set flight

To new destinations
As the layers of an age now past are shed
And a new you revealed

Your course now set in motion
And your awakened mind accompanies
Truth’s enrapturing light

So Listen

Be not too ready to move in haste

Sit

Be still

And your mind shall carry you
Beyond the course matter of life’s trivialities
Where you shall be free

The unfettered freedom of Being
Which liberates even the most imprisoned soul

So being no different than a caged bird
Release yourself from your jailer’s fast grip
To find that…you are We

How my brother met his Guardian Angel

By Karen Scott 4 Comments

Image of being energisedMark, my brother, has been responsible for introducing me to many new and wonderful experiences.

He has, on numerous occasions, acted as a true friend and guide to me through the more difficult challenges I’ve encountered in this life.

Here’s Mark’s grace-filled story of his passage from the dark night of his soul, into light.

Mark’s story

I’d reached a stage in my life when I no longer believed in God.

At the time, I knew little about spirituality apart from the teachings of the Catholic Church, which I grew up with.

My partner would talk about auras, Guides, the Light and past lives, but I was very sceptical about these New Age things. It’s just that there was something about the way he spoke about them and believed in them that meant I didn’t discount it as nonsense.

It was the sudden end of that relationship, in August 1994, when everything changed. And, from my perspective today, I can say that the end of that relationship was one of the most important events in my life. Continue reading

The healing power of confession, and of hearing others confess

By Karen Scott Leave a Comment

Image of a butterflyConfession, now known as the Rite of Reconciliation, is a Catholic sacrament in which we share our transgressions with a priest.

According to church law, the priest has the power to absolve the sins of anyone who confesses to him.

Many non-Catholics don’t understand why we should confess. Why we should bear our souls to a perfect stranger, or worse still, to a parish priest who has known us since infancy.

Yet, through my work, I’ve come to understand the incredible healing power of confession. Continue reading
